No accounts, no mailing list, no tracking — and nothing at all about your child. Here’s the detail.

1. Who we are

Whimsy is a children’s bicycle brand of the Abbas Bin Haider Group in Dubai. This website, playwhimsy.com, is operated by Abbas Bin Haider General Trading LLC (“we”, “us”, “our”), which owns the Whimsy brand.

We are the controller of personal data collected through this site — the “data controller” under the UAE Personal Data Protection Law, and the “Data Fiduciary” under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act.

“Abbas Bin Haider Group” is the family’s collective name for its companies, not a registered company in itself. The legal entity behind Whimsy and this website is Abbas Bin Haider General Trading LLC.

2. The short version

There is no account to create here, no newsletter, no shopping cart and no tracking. The only thing you can send us is a short message through the “say hello” form — and that opens your own email app rather than sending anything to a server of ours. We have never sold anyone’s data and we never will.

3. What we collect

a. Technical information, collected automatically

Our hosting provider’s servers keep ordinary access logs: your IP address, the time of the request, the page you asked for, the page that sent you, and your browser and operating system version. They exist so the site stays up and secure. They are not used to build a picture of you.

b. What you choose to send us

If you write to us — through the form, by email, or by phone — we hold your name, your email address and whatever you decide to tell us.

c. Analytics — only if you say yes

We run no analytics and no advertising trackers today. We’d like to add analytics so we can see which pages actually help parents. When we do, it will load only after you press “Accept analytics”, and we’ll name the tool here and in our Cookie Policy before it goes live.

What we never collect here

4. Why, and on what basis

What we doData usedLawful basis
Read your message and write backName, email, whatever you wroteLegitimate interest in replying to someone who contacted us
Help with a bike that has a problem, or a warranty claimContact details, proof of purchase, bike detailsPerformance of our obligations under the Whimsy warranty and applicable consumer law
Point you to a shop that stocks WhimsyRoughly where you are, if you tell usLegitimate interest in answering your question
Keep the site up, secure and free of abuseServer logsLegitimate interest in the security of our systems
Measure how the site is used (not yet active)Analytics identifiersYour consent, from the moment you give it
Meet legal obligations, or establish or defend legal claimsRelevant correspondenceLegal obligation and legitimate interest

We don’t use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that has a legal or similarly significant effect on you.

5. The “say hello” form

Worth understanding, because it is unusual: the form on our contact section does not send anything to us directly. When you press send, it opens a pre-filled message in your own email application. Nothing leaves your device until you send that email yourself, and no copy is stored on this website.

Once you do send it, your message sits in our mailbox and is covered by the rest of this policy.

6. Buying from a shop

Whimsy bikes are sold by retailers — online and in store, across the UAE. When you buy from one of them, they take your payment and delivery details under their own privacy policy. We don’t receive your payment information and we don’t get a copy of their customer list.

If you write to us about an order, please don’t include card numbers. We don’t need them.

7. Who we share it with

We don’t sell, rent or trade personal data, and we don’t share it with advertising networks or data brokers.

8. Where it goes

We’re in the United Arab Emirates, so anything you send us is handled here. Our website hosting runs on infrastructure outside the UAE, and our provider holds backups outside the UAE too, so server logs may be stored elsewhere.

Where a transfer falls under the GDPR, we rely on appropriate safeguards for countries without an EU adequacy decision — in practice the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses in our contracts with those providers. Where the UAE PDPL or India’s DPDP Act applies, we transfer only as those laws allow. Ask and we’ll give you more detail.

9. How long we keep it

WhatHow long
Warranty or after-sales correspondenceFor the life of the matter, then as long as UAE commercial and tax law requires
General messages that go no furtherUp to 24 months from our last exchange with you
Server access logsThe short rolling period our hosting provider operates, typically weeks
Your cookie-banner answerIn your own browser, until you clear it or it expires after 12 months

Ask us to delete your messages sooner and we will, unless we’re legally required to keep them — for instance while a warranty claim is open.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have some or all of these:

Email topgear@abhgt.com with “Privacy request” in the subject line, or write to the address in section 1. We answer within 30 days, free. We may need to check who you are first, so we’re not handing your details to someone else.

11. Region-specific rights

United Arab Emirates — Federal Decree-Law No. 45 of 2021 (PDPL)

The PDPL gives you the rights in section 10, including information about processing, correction, erasure, restriction, objection and portability. The supervisory authority is the UAE Data Office, and you can complain to it if our answer doesn’t satisfy you.

European Union and United Kingdom — GDPR

Articles 15 to 22 of the GDPR give you the rights in section 10, and you may complain to the supervisory authority where you live or work — in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office. Please try us first.

India — Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023

You may ask for a summary of your personal data and our processing of it, request correction or erasure, use our grievance route below, and nominate someone to act for you if you die or become incapacitated. Unresolved grievances can go to the Data Protection Board of India.

United States

We don’t sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. Where a US state privacy law applies to you, you may request access, correction or deletion, and we won’t treat you differently for asking.

12. Children

Whimsy makes bikes for children, so this deserves saying plainly: we don’t collect anything about your child. There’s no age field, no birthday reminder, no child profile, nothing to sign a child up for.

This site is written for the grown-ups doing the buying. It isn’t directed at children, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18 through it. If you think a child has sent us something, tell us and we’ll delete it.

If you write to us about your child’s bike, please tell us only what we need to help — their height or inside-leg for sizing is genuinely useful; their full name and school are not, and we’d rather not have them.

13. Changes

If we change how we handle personal data — for instance when analytics go live — we’ll update this page and the date at the top, and make anything significant obvious rather than leaving you to spot it.
